Isla Mujeres Punta Sur — Cliffs, Reef and the Temple of Ixchel

An hour from the marina, Punta Sur sits at the southern tip of Isla Mujeres where Cancun Bay meets the open Atlantic. The water here is crystal clear, reef-lined and full of sea life — and unlike most spots around the island it rarely gets crowded. Above the waterline the dramatic cliffs of Punta Sur rise up to the Ixchel Temple, dedicated to the ancient Mayan goddess of the moon and fertility, with views that stretch across the entire Caribbean.

Plan for 4–5 hours total — one hour out from the marina, 2–3 hours at Punta Sur, and one hour back. During your time at Punta Sur you can swim, snorkel the reef and take in the surroundings. The water visibility here is some of the best on any of our routes and sea turtles are common. Expect to see smaller and mid-size fish if you snorkel. A visit to the Centro Escultórico at the clifftop is available for an additional fee and is well worth the stop.

The ride out and back is a good part of the experience — on the return we cruise along the island's shores and shallow waters. Ask about MUSA snorkeling on the way back. A fresh prepared lunch, soft drinks and open bar are served. Ask about the charcoal BBQ option for a longer cruise.
